M3GAN 2.0 on IMDb

Plot Overview

bound foldercopying
machinecomputer disksIn the 1980's Xenox Corp's self-correcting copier was altered for broader application but proved lethal to humans, so its mother board was put on a secure shelf until further developments. It's stored in a Faraday cage that prevents it from being hacked and is triply protected in cascading vaults with limited access under an undisclosed mountain.

kid with hand puppetMeanwhile a secret army cabal has used purloined plans for the scrapped Model 3 Generative Android introduced to us in “M3GAN” to create a weaponized version called AMELIA (Ivanna Sakhno) now undergoing Beta testing. It goes rogue and commits a homicide when its digital brain did not cotton to its human puppet masters. It now seeks to appropriate the Xenox mother board to unleash worldwide AI dominion, feared at least as far back as the Middle Ages:

Good reason sure had Hagen to cóvet such a hoard. And thereamong was lying the wishing-rod of gold, Which whoso could discover, might in subjection hold All this wide world as master, with all that dwelt therein. (81)

care bearSane heads at the army & FBI have come to M3GAN's inventor Gemma (Allison Williams) for help, but she demurs until she learns what's at stake. She tries to install safeguards (“morality app”) on a reinvigorated M3GAN, but that won't work ("undefined function.") She is limited to a software murder inhibitor, but that limits M3GAN's ability to fight.

Ideology

An organization trying to limit computers' intrusion into our lives disses the shenanigans of vassal M3GAN to its maker Gemma, but their real concern should be Amelia. (Prov. 30:10) “Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.” M3GAN is viable under section 230 that gives a great deal of latitude in the digital realm.

Production Values

eye trim"" (2025) was directed by Gerard Johnstone. Its screenplay was written by Akela Cooper, Gerard Johnstone and James Wan. It stars Allison Williams, Jemaine Clement and Violet McGraw. Ukrainian-American actress Ivanna Sakhno, who plays AMELIA, gives off some serious bad vibes. Amie Donald with a total makeover played M3gan whose enhanced, big eyes gave it an aura of innocence contrasting nicely with its sarcastic attitude.

red maple leavesMPA rated it PG–13 for strong violent content, bloody images, some strong language, sexual material, and brief drug references. A couple of the women seemed masculine in their characters, which added to the angst in a movie about machines preempting humans. It had a smart mix of CGI & puppets, on the money set pieces, riotous creepiness, biting one liners, and superb music. It was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Runtime is 2 hours.

Review Conclusion w/a Christian's Recommendation

After all the intense action I felt that I could use a factory reset myself. This one is mostly for sci-fi aficionados but not for viewing too close to bedtime.
